RAJASTHAN GEMS
BY ANNA GABRIELLE GEFFRIAUD
August 29, 2024
3 wonderful hotels in Rajasthan that takes you on the journey of breathtaking architectural beauty.
Guest house, hotel or family home, you will feel right at home a million miles away.
01
RATAN VILAS
HERITAGE HOTEL IN THE BLUE CITY
Built in 1950, former property of the brother of Jodhpur’s Maharaja.
We enter this Oasis, located in outskirts of the city center. Time stands still in a garden punctuated by the sound of water, coming from a fountain surrounded by delicate furniture.

The family still lives in the main apartment, but the property has expanded to around twenty rooms on two floors. In April, the temperature rises to 40 degrees, yet the beauty of space soothes us. At an eye level, we dive into a refreshing swimming pool which helps us to forget the outside temperature.
The suite I am staying at is bright and airy; 180 degree view, overlooking the swimming pool and the patio. It is decorated with floral motifs and heirloom wooden furniture.
A peaceful break before getting lost in the little blue streets, venturing into the most beautiful fort in Rajasthan before ending the day with a dinner at sunset time… Magical.
02
SUKH SAGAR HAVELI
LUXURIOUS HAVELI OUTSIDE JODHPUR
30 minutes from Jodhpur, I entered this guest house through a gigantic wooden door.
The atmosphere of this establishment is like Cathy’s, the owner : calm, relaxed, welcoming.
4 bedrooms (some more charming than others), are overlooking this large square garden. They are decorated with elements found in India and around the world associated with the luxury of modern materials. We know it works wonderfully when it seems to have been there forever. A charming authenticity emanates from these spaces.
It's not a palace with 24/7 service, however the adorable staff takes great care, preparing homemade food and drinks on the spot.
Rest in different spaces of the house, swim a few laps in the pool, take your time, reconnect with friends or yourself. An India break is just around the corner.
A little further away, stands an old Haveli which seems to magically emerge from nature. It has been sumptuously renovated in keeping with the property, serving as a venue for events.
It's so good to have a warm home feeling again. We are not customers, we are guests, almost friends.

JOBNER BAGH
HEAVEN OF PEACE INSIDE THE PINK CITY
The white gates of the garden open, a man and his daughter warmly welcome me with a big smile on their lips. This establishment is the fruit of the work of a couple.
Jobner bagh is a bright white building with rounded cutouts and protruding staircases, mixed with absolutely magnificent antique wood which give it all its charm. We feel the novelty of the spaces, but the authentic decoration proves that they have found the right balance. The 12 rooms are pleasant and the beds so comfortable.
During the winter period, reservations are essential. This house appeals to more than one traveler.
Downstairs, there is also a massage room. I had the chance to have an acupressure treatment, under their recommendation. A great experience if your body suffers, you will leave Jobner Bagh lighter.
Speaking of gems, Shiva, the owner, is a jeweler. and opposite this massage room is his workshop. Breathtaking. Her taste for architectural design is reflected in jewelry. He creates wonders from scratch but also mixes antiques with new things to bring life back to life.

Speaking of marvelous, so are his family and staff, of incomparable gentleness and kindness.
All dressed in white linen, good taste, to perfection. The food and service taste like home, delicious.
The mornings are soft and silent. The evenings are celebrated and mysterious.
The occupants of the rooms often become more than customers, bonds become closer and stronger, good hearts meet. We don't want to leave anymore.
